My parents, especially my mother was always listening to music when I was younger. So from a very young age I developed a love for all types of music: rock, folk, country, Celtic. My Mom is a big fan of 50s and 60s rock, so there was a lot of that played around the house. And while I liked most of it, some of it I couldn't stand. Yet, I find myself appreciating those songs and artists that I would never listen to when I was younger.

American Pie by Don McLean is considered one the greatest songs written. IT wasn't until I hit my late 20s that I liked this song. When I was younger, it drove me nuts. The lyrics, the melody, the change in tempo - I hated it all. I honestly don't think I had heard the full version on till I was around 28. Now, I have no idea what I found so wrong about the song. I like it today and when it comes on the radio I often find myself pausing to listen to the lyrics.

Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen are two artists that I could never stomach. But as I learned more about music, I felt that they were both singer songwriters that I should like. People always raved about them. I just didn't get it. Neither could sing worth a dime and their lyrics were often convoluted and very dry. While I still don't think that either has the best voice, I appreciate both, even owning a Leonard Cohen cd.

I think as we get older, our musical interests can change because we start to seek something different in our music than we did when we were younger. For me, I was very much all about the beat when I was younger, preferring pop and dance artist. As I enter my mid to late teens I started branching out in my musical interests.

Now, in my mid 30s I still like a song with a good beat but I think I now know that I can appreciate an artist and their talent without being in love with them.

Nearly a decade ago, Konami released the first installments in the DrumMania and Guitar Freaks series, which used drum and guitar peripherals. Though neither franchise was a huge hit, the Japanese publisher did sell millions of its dozen-plus Karaoke Revolution games worldwide.

Given Konami's primogeniture in the instrument and karaoke genres, the publisher was likely none too happy when developer Harmonix combined drums, guitars, and singing into one game--Rock Band. Since its release last November, the MTV Games-published, Electronic Arts-distributed title has sold more than 3 million $179 bundles and more than 10 million song downloads. MTV's parent, Viacom, went as far as to name-check the game in its annual earnings report in May, crediting it with increased profits.

Now, it appears Konami is expressing its displeasure in legal form. According to a report on the Bloomberg news service, this week the Japanese publisher filed suit in a Marshall, Texas, court against Harmonix, MTV Networks, and Viacom. Its suit claims that Rock Band violates a series of US Patents registered in 2002 and 2003 relating to "simulated musical instruments" and "musical rhythm-matching game."

Bloomberg's report did not outline what Konami wanted in terms of compensation from the suit. However, the legal action's timing comes shortly after the announcement of Rock Band 2 and Rock Band: Japan as well as the release of Rock Band: Special Edition for the Wii. It also comes less than two months after Konami announced its own peripheral-based, guitar-drum-vocal title, Rock Revolution, due out later this year.

[UPDATE] Unsurprisingly, MTV Games and Harmonix will not be taking the suit lying down. "Konami's actions are extremely surprising," an MTV representative told the company's Multiplayer gaming blog. "Unfortunately, successful products such as Rock Band can often become targets for baseless litigation. We have substantial defenses to this claim and intend to vigorously defend it."

Electric Ladyland (released in October 1968) is widely considered The Jimi Hendrix Experience's crowning achievement and focuses attention on Hendrix's abilities as singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer. This stunning collection provides the earliest insight into Hendrix's "Sky Church" concept with featured guest appearances by Steve Winwood, Jack Casady, Al Kooper, Chris Wood, and Buddy Miles.

The first time I picked up this album, I knew it was something very special. It really conveys all the different nuances of the Hendrix style. Firstly, the soulful "Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland)", is a great example of Jimi at his thoughtful best with his guitar sounding very mellow. However, this soon is overtaken by the still soulful but rougher-edged sounds of "Crosstown Traffic". This song is about a girl who is hard to get rid of. Getting through to her that she's not wanted is like getting through crosstown traffic. Again, the guitar riffs here are smooth and soulful, displaying Hendrix's unique ability to be tender with a rough-edge at the same time.

"Voodoo Chile" (and the reprise "Voodoo Child - Slight Return") is an epic, what can I say? It is 15 minutes of blues-drenched Jimi at his best. While the track sounds like a live recording, the crowd noise was actually recorded afterwards. Some twenty people were brought to the studio to record appropriate background noise. Nevertheless, the audience sounds are very well integrated into the track. "Little Miss Strange" and "Long Hot Summer Night" are interesting tracks, the first sounding like a typical 1960s pop song, and the second sounding again, a bit rougher-edged.

Then come my favourite tracks on the album, the old Earl King track "Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)" where Jimi shows off his best guitar work. This is bluesy and quite over the top as Jimi just attacks his guitar in a real rock n'roll style. Another favourite is "Gypsy Eyes" which has a sizzling, aggressive guitar sound. Fantastic! "The Burning of the Midnight Lamp" follows which has a much more mellow sound. The song's lyrics are about the loss of relationship. Scenes of loneliness are described with attention to detail, including seeing an earring left behind and how it reminds him of his current loneliness. Whether due to the personal lyrics or unique instrumentation and sound, Hendrix was particularly proud of this song. His attachment is evidenced by the decision to include it on Electric Ladyland over a year after first releasing it.

"Rainy Day, Dream Away" and the later reprise "Still Raining, Still Dreaming" are laid-back jazz-blues tracks which show the versatility of Jimi's guitar playing. "1983 . . . (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)" is a fantastic dreamy journey into another world. It is self-indulgent and is designed to take you away and it does so, with great effect. The song details a science fiction scenario of an apocalyptic war and the protagonist/Hendrix' desire to "take our last walk through the noise to the sea" with his female companion.

"House Burning Down" is a classic sizzling Hendrix track which really typifies the overtly aggressive Hendrix style. Finally, "All Along the Watchtower", written by Bob Dylan, highlights another aspect of Hendrix's work, where he really 'talks' emotion through his guitar. Hendrix's obsessive re-working of the song totally transformed it from a quiet acoustic ballad to a pyrotechnic display of Hendrix's guitar virtuosity. Dylan has described his reaction to hearing Hendrix's version: "It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day" (Interview with Bob Dylan: 09/29/95, Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel). A great tribute indeed.

Running is one of the best routes towards losing weight and increasing fitness, not only this but it is absolutely free requiring no monthly gym membership. Here are some tips for making your jog/run more interesting and keeping you focused.

Warming up before you run prepares you body for the exercise ahead, thus keeping the fatigue away for longer and decreasing the chance of you giving up too early. Try to change your warm up routine on a weekly or two weekly basis. Further to this if you are new to running then start off slow, exhorting yourself in the first five minutes will tired you out and drain you for the remainder of the run.

Listen to music, it will not only prevent boredom is but it will divert your attention from the sensations of fatigue. Keep the music on your MP3 player up to date and create different playlists to suit your different moods. Studies suggest that music can be stimulating so turn on upbeat dance music and try to synchronize your steps with the beats of the music, build up a rhythm to the music. When using a music player I would suggest using a holder for it, such as the arm band holders on the market at the moment,

Where you jog also has a big impact on your interest levels; if you have been jogging the same route for the past two years then get a map, have a look at all the nearby parks, points of interest or training grounds in the near vicinity and try them all out. Not everyone is affected by their route, but having new surroundings and terrain to cover can often make a run more interesting, and challenging. Don't always opt for the easiest route either, choosing a route which covers stairs or a hills something that although tiring will be very rewarding once you have mastered it; think of the scene in Rocky with the stone steps.

Whilst out, it is a good idea, to not only break your run up a bit but to also increase your performance, to set yourself goals; even if it is to sprint as fast as possible to the next tree or to improve upon your normal time. This will not only make your run a bit more interesting, it can lead to you improving your overall performance. If you find yourself very tired during your run, try to focus on different points on the horizon, focus on reaching them, once you have stop for a 20 second breather and find another spot and repeat the process.

If you often cut your run short due to fatigue or plain laziness then get a friend to jog with you. Having a running partner sharing the same goal will keep you both motivated, having someone to speak to will also help to distract you from your tiredness.

When I seen this novela I was so glued to the TV I couldn't wait to see it everyday and sat-sun were the worse! I am so very happy they release such a classic on DVD. Granted, it may be edited and short but I think the reason why they did that was because they figured people who are buying it already know what happens. In my case, I wouldn't need the complete novela because I already saw it and I just wouldn't have the time. So this being edited has it's advantages for those who already saw it and loved it. After this novela, Gaby Spanic became one of my favorite spanish actresses! She did such a wonderful job and how brutal she was portraying the mean sister! I highly suggest you invest in this novela!

A nice edited telenovela..you guys should buy this..even though there's no subtitile..but you can easily understand the whole story..you guys should buy this DVD!!

1. Association

People need to associate with your music to something they know before they listen to anything, yet alone download anything. So make sure that you actually specify what you music sounds like. This is a fantastic way to get the "mental image download audience". By saying: "Tiesto sounding music to make your butt shake. Click here to dance for free." Is an extremely good mental image ticking all the downloaders boxes. 1. They are into that style of music, and 2. Its free. You are putting up mental images of kicking music because you have associated it with kicking artists and descriptive words.

2. Artist Pages

You have to know your audience for this to work. Hence doing prep work before you even start building a web site. Ask yourself, who actually is your audience? if you have created trance tracks you need to be building pages designed to attract trance listeners. A great way of doing this, but getting targeted downloaders is to make pages that review trance artists. If you list the "best trance artists" and then have a page dedicated to profiling each one, then you are netting a wide but targeted audience who likes trance. Then at the bottom of each page link to your own songs.

3. Placement

This is an area where I have done extensive research. First off, you need to figure out "what is your goal". Be realistic. If it is to get an album deal, then it means hard work, but if your goal is to spread your music far and wide then the actual placement of your songs on your pages will make a huge difference to downloads. If your songs are more than a few clicks away then you will not get that download.

If they are 1 click away then you will get a much better response rate. 1 click away downloads are only available if you have a nav bar that says 1. free music, 2.links on other pages that link directly to your music download page (not many people jump straight into your homepage, most will jump away from it as most traffic generated is search engine led) that state there is free music to listen to.

4. Offer a download

This may seem pretty insane, but it is strange how many people don't offer this. It is mainly because they don't say that people can download their tracks or have them tucked away from public view. Or...my personal bug bear...pay to download. I am not going into that, but all I am saying is that don't get people to pay for your tracks. You are supposed to be promoting your tracks- so don't put up a cash barrier. Offer a free album download to newsletter subscribers. This offers to spread your tracks and increases your subscriber base at the same time.

5. Pre-sell

It may sound strange, but getting the download is all to do with selling, even though you are offering something for free. You see, point 2 in combination with point 3 will get the most recognition from downloaders because they are wanting to download your song. If you go onto a site with reams of MP3s, unless you know the artist or have a love of their music them then it makes no sense to download anything- what on earth are you downloading? IamHere.mp3- what is that!?

We must realise that downloaders have a vast choice out there, so we must make their site visit pleasurable, and easy to get what they want. Having flash and "in your face" animations seem cool, but they don't really add to your pre-sell, they just annoy and don't lead the downloader to what they want.

So to increase your downloads, you must always think of pre-selling. This can be simple as putting a streaming link on your page, playing the track when someone comes onto the site (beware download rates).

Even putting a brief description with the track (key word= descriptive/ relevant/ see point 1) and even asking to rate your music (you can see then what people like and dislike- an easy tool to modify your future music creations. You could even put remixes of various artist tracks (having a page per song to get better ranking in search engines and to attract the targeted audience).

Describe what you have done, get interviews from like themed artists, appear on other artists sites...Offer something for the downloader.

In this article I will be basically showing you the different types of guitar. This article is based at first time beginners.

There are two types of guitars and then two different styles of those two type of guitars. So we will start with the acoustic guitar. The acoustic guitar produces noise by the sound waves echoing through the hollow body. There are two style of acoustic guitar which are:

Nylon: A Nylon means that the strings are made out of nylon. The top strings may look like they are made out of steel, but in fact they are coated (with a special type of metal that I cant remember the name of) and are made of nylon in the inside. Nylon guitars are great for the classical sound and relaxation. Since these guitars are soft stringed I highly recommend them to any beginner as they help you get the gist of playing guitar.

Steel: A steel stringed acoustic guitar have strings that are made out of steel as you would have guessed. These guitars here are generally played either strumming or finger picking and can create a relaxation sound or a catchy beat. Many artists use the acoustic guitar like Jack Johnson and Pete Murray. These guitars can be hard to play for some people as it requires you to push the strings in pretty hard on the fretboard to make a clean sound. You can get acoustic electric guitars which are still a still stringed electric but have pickups inside the hollow body.

Now we get to the electric guitar. Electric guitars make there sound by the pickups located under the strings. The sound is "picked up" with these and sends the sound through a cord to an amplifier. This then amplifies the sound which can be changed by the different knobs located usually at the top of the amp. The two types of electric guitars are:

Solid Body: Solid body guitars are steel stringed guitars. These guitars are generally used in Metal, Rock, Blues and Pop Music. These guitars are great because if you turn the distortion up, it can sometimes hide your mistakes. It is better though to practice in a clean sound so that you get used to perfecting the notes and getting a good nice clear sound.

Hollow Body: These electric guitars also have steel strings. These are basically the same as a solid body but as the name suggests they are hollow. Sometimes they are only hollow by the f notes you see on the old fashion basses, Chellos ect. These guitars are generally used in Jazz and blues category.

Now strings. Guitar strings are wonderful because they come in many different types. If you are a beginner you should start off with low gauged strings so you can develop how to play the notes clean and well. Strings should be changed regularly because the oil on your fingers and other chemicals in the air damages the strings an can make the sound of your guitar not as good (bad phrasing).
